There is nothing like hyacinths to lift your mood. The heady fragrance alone is an instant reminder of a garden’s simple pleasures. This time of year I step out my kitchen door hoping for that magical smell of spring. Flowers are pushing upwards, and while I can see the pinks and purples, their fragrance has yet to arrive.
The quality of a hyacinth’s perfume is matched by the rich colors of the flowers themselves. Jewel like purples and reds, buttery yellows and pinks ranging from pale to bright, colors that brighten even the most overcast days. Even the stems and leaves are bright with the promise of summer days.
