Melinda Lane

Since childhood, a fascination with color, texture, and light has guided how I see the world. Rooted in the varied landscape and historical presence of New England, my work explores the quiet dialogue between nature and the spaces we inhabit. Working in oil paints, each piece begins by drawing with color. This foundation establishes both linear structure and a deep, atmospheric light within the still lifes and interiors.

These paintings are less about recording objects and more about exploring relationships: how a draped textile holds form, or how a garden’s seasonal shift transforms the light across a room. Cultivated flowers from my garden and natural elements gathered on walks find their place alongside everyday objects, inducing dialog among the participants.

My goal is to capture those subtle, fleeting shifts in a space, inviting you to pause and find a sense of quiet resonance within the frame. Through form, mark-making, and light, these works offer a moment of stillness. These paintings offer an invitation to slow down and connect with the quiet beauty often overlooked in a hurried world.
